Thank you to those who have contacted me about the persecution of Christian women.
The Government remains concerned about levels of intolerance, discrimination and persecution of people around the world as a result of their religious belief and has increased its focus on this issue.
The Government acknowledges that Christian women are more likely than men to be victims of discrimination and persecution. Last year, the UK joined the International Religious Freedoms Alliance.
Fiona Bruce MP has been appointed as the PM's Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief. The Bishop of Truro conducted an Independent Review of UK support for persecuted Christians and the Government has committed to implementing its recommendations by 2022.
The UK has committed to use its Presidency of the G7 this year to focus on Gender Equality and has made the largest single investment to help end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The Government works with a large number of NGOs to help protect freedom of religion or belief.
