On 9 May 2014, Rt Hon Owen Paterson, MP for North Shropshire and Secretary of State for DEFRA, visited the Mondelēz International Chirk site to see the processing of cocoa beans and learn more about the organisation’s apprenticeship programme.
Meeting with current apprentices, Paterson was able to get an insight into the Mondelēz International programme and discuss how to encourage more young people into apprenticeships.
He also took part in a factory tour, learning about the cocoa bean roasting process and meeting staff on the packing line.
Richard Hobman, Head of Manufacturing at Chirk, said: “As one of our local MPs we are delighted that Mr Paterson took the time to visit our site and talk to our apprentices about their experiences at Mondelēz International.
“Mondelēz International has a long and proud tradition of employing apprentices and we’re keen to encourage people from all walks of life to explore careers within the food industry.”
Owen Paterson MP added: “I am hugely encouraged to see the importance of the Chirk site to the Cadbury chocolate triangle and Mondelez International’s drive to bring new talent into the food and drink industry. Today has given me a fantastic opportunity to experience the work the apprentices are doing first hand”
Mondelēz International currently employs 66 apprentices across its sites in the UK and Ireland. For more information please visit http://www.mdlzearlycareers.co.uk/.
