MP for North Shropshire Owen Paterson has signed-up as a Dementia Friend, having attended a information session at Whitchurch Civic Centre organised by local Dementia Friends Champion, Roy Broad.
Accepting his Dementia Friends badge, Owen said: “With so many people and families affected by dementia, it is really important that we all understand more about the effects of living with dementia and what we can each do to help.”
“I am pleased to support this really worthwhile initiative and wish the Alzheimer’s Society and those leading the Dementia Friends campaign success. I encourage everyone to sign-up as a Dementia Friend and to talk about what they can do to help those living with dementia.”
Dementia Friends is an initiative that aims to give a million people an improved awareness of the condition by 2015. A recent YouGov survey revealed that under half (48%) of the population think they have a good understanding of Dementia.
The Dementia Friends initiative is funded by the Department of Health and the Cabinet Office, as part of the Prime Minister’s Challenge on Dementia.
